Speck & Burke offers half day training courses, which include a practical session for all users of laboratory and workshop gas systems, to ensure your gas system operators and those working around them are as safe as possible.

Course Content

Each session consists of approximately two and a half hours of theory training, followed by a practical session lasting 30 to 40 minutes. The syllabus includes the following topics:

  • Safe and legal use of gas systems
  • Introduction to relevant Regulations and Codes of Practice, including their differences
  • Definitions and terminology
  • Responsibilities of gas system owners
  • Overview of gas system hardware and devices
  • How regulators work and their functions
  • Protective devices within a gas system
  • Selecting and operating the correct regulator for specific tasks
  • Handling and replacing cylinders safely
  • Identifying risks from stored energy
  • Mitigating hazards related to asphyxiating, flammable, toxic, and corrosive gases
  • Introduction to the correct use of fittings
  • Practical examples from our “Rogue’s Gallery”
